Get to know the all-new 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

Mitsubishi knew it was time to shakeup their lineup and they did so with the all-new 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross! Sorry, coupe-lovers, but the Eclipse Cross isn't related to the Eclipse that was retired in 2011. The company just borrowed the name and added "Cross" to designate the new model's crossover status. That said, the Eclipse Cross has a sporty meets sleek look and a lot going for it. We'll review the engine and cargo space, standard features and model highlights, and safety options.

Engine & Cargo Space

The Eclipse Cross have four trims (ES, LE, SE, and SEL), and they all have have 1.5L direct-injection turbo engine with 152 horsepower and plenty of pep thanks to 184 lb-ft torque. The ES comes in front-wheel drive, but Mitsubishi's Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) is available. The remaining trims only come in S-AWC and all have an automatic CVT transmission.

Cargo space with all seats up is 22.6 cubic feet and with the back seats folded flat it's 48.9 cubic feet. The Eclipse Cross is 173 inches long and 66 inches high (the base trim in FWD is a little shorter). For reference since the two models look like the same size at a glance, the Eclipse Cross is a little longer than the Outlander Sport and has a touch more cargo space when the backseats are up, but the Outlander Sport edges the Eclipse Cross out on maximum cargo space.

Standard Features & Model Highlights

The Eclipse Cross is aimed at a young professional crowd, so even on the base trim you'll still get a nice number of tech features. Standard amenities include a rearview camera, cruise control, a 7-inch touchscreen plus Bluetooth for hands-free calling and music streaming, and LED daytime running lights.
